IMASA Breakout Session-IT Transformation in Local Government

Auditor in the western cape area, general auditor Nd the UN.

They have an order by the national to have a clean audit by 2014 for their financial systems and management information systems. It was noted that they are working on improving the quality of life for people and moving away from buzz words, utilities etc…this mandate only seemed to focus on financial information but they have come to realize that it is far more reaching with managing information. It was noted that IT is focusing on the financials and not addressing other departments. Sounds like GASB…

An example was given in how they are trying to improve their services and had provided a mobile network system during the purchasing of tickets for the World Cup— many in the area do not have access to internet.

Municipalities are putting into place best practices for IT infrastructure which many of us have already implemented.
